Need to be moderately fit for the uphill climb. Not a lot to see but burnt ground and heat haze. Great view of the surrounding countryside. Don't do in hot weather without plenty of water.

Burning Mountain is an interesting area. The walk to the viewing platform is pleasant with plenty of information boards explaining the history of the mountain and surrounding areas along the way. There is permanent seating situated along the walking track along with a few picnic tables at the viewing areas. There are plenty of steps, so definitely not suitable for prams or wheel chairs. The walking track is well maintained and easy to follow.

Well worth the effort of walking up the mountain. Path is rated as Grade 3 with some steep sections. Views of the surrounding countryside from the top are great and the actual spot with the underground burning and heat haze is interesting. Education info board are scattered along the walk and are worth reading.

Is this an active volcano? No it is a 6000 year old burning coal seam. This a good rest area with clean amenities. There is also a moderately rated 1.5 hour return walk along a maintained track to the burning coal face. The walk is supported by a number of benches, picnic tables, information boards and some reasonable views along the way. The actual burning coal face is a little disappointing. A little smoke and small lunar, sulphur smelling, landscape.

Beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys make for good photography.
